Electroplating and cataphoresis

Electroplating is the generic name by which you can make a metal coating on the surface of another metal using electric current that circulates through an electrolytic solution. Nickel plating, chrome plating, silver plating, gilding processes, etc. are done through electroplating. A reverse process of electroplating is anodizing, which means cleaning metallic surfaces of any impurities using electric current and an electrolyte solution.

Cataphoresis also uses electric power, but not for metal coatings on the surface of other metals, but for paint coatings of various metal surfaces. It is a process often found in the automotive industry, but not only there. The passage of electric current through the paint makes it evenly coat the metallic surfaces, due to various electrostatic additives on paint!
